Blogs

Blogs are a method for almost everybody to publish some more or less usefull information. It seems, almost everybody who has installed App-V more then ones maintains an own blog.

Some of the blogs you should subscribe to, are:

Microsoft App-V Team Blog

This blog is used by Microsoft Support and Field engineers that are quite close (or evene member of) the App-V Product Team at MS: http://blogs.technet.com/appv/

German App-V Escalation Support Blog

A blog by a German Escalation Support Engineer: http://blogs.msdn.com/sgern

VirtualWorld Blog

Microsoft's Justin Zarb and Andrew Bennet run this one at: http://blogs.technet.com/virtualworld/

Independent App-V Blog

Maintained by Rodney Medina and filled with content from some of Login Consultant's App-V  Guys: http://www.softgridblog.com/

Books

eBook Understanding Microsoft Virtualization Solutions

by Mitch Tulloch with the Microsoft Virtualization Teams

This eBook covers current MSFT Virtualization technologies like Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Manager, App-V, MED-V and MS VDI. To download, you have to register at http://csna01.libredigital.com/?urmvs17u33

This eBook refers to App-V version 4.5

German Book Applikationsvirtualisierung mit Microsoft SoftGrid

by Nico Lüdemann

This book is applicable for SoftGrid 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2. It covers topics like Installation, Management and Sequencing Best Practices. If you have a current SoftGrid 4 deployment and you do not want to upgrade to App-V 4.5 in the next time, this book is a good starting point. Because App-V 4.5 mainly "only extends" management and deployment capabilities compared with SoftGrid, it us even worth reading if you plan to start with App-V 4.5. However, for that scenario you should try to get a discounted version... And don't forgett: This book is written in German.

This Book refers to SoftGrid 4.0-4.2. Additional information can be found at http://www.galileocomputing.de/katalog/buecher/titel/gp/titelID-1347?GalileoSession=41240245A3EUaQ-V5xU

Application Virtualization Comparisons

From time to time various guys try to compare different Application Virtualization solutions.

Please rember that these comparisons generally only can focus on technical aspects of a solution and only represent a certain software version. Also, comparisons are made by people and some features might be available, but not obviously visible for the authors.

Using the comaprisons requires some action from you as the reader as well: You have to define some fixed constraints that a desired Application Virtualization Solution has to meet. Then you should set 5-10 priorities on your most wanted functionalities and compare the technologies against that priorized feature set.

Please also remeber that you always should validate the remaining solutions in your comparison process with a Proof of Consept.

VirtualFuture.info / Sven Huismann, Matthijs Haverink (September 2009)

Sven and Mattijs compared the application virtualization solutions from Citrix, InstallFree, Microsoft, Symantec, VMware and Xenocode. The Application Virtualization Comparison Chart can be found at http://virtualfuture.info/2009/09/application-virtualization-comparison-chart-september-2009/

PQR / Ruben Spruijt (June 2009)

Ruben compared the application virtualization solutions from Altiris, Citrix, Endeavor, InstallFree, Microsoft, VMware and Xenocode.
